Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Research Associate II / Sr. Research Associate is responsible for designing and troubleshooting PCR-based assays for use with the GenMark Dx ePlex® platform. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a collaborative research and IVD product development environment and demonstrate ability to analyze sequence data to drive assay development.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular diagnostics and assay development, and possess the ability to solve problems efficiently and creatively. This person will have the ability to balance dynamic priorities, adapt positively to new challenges, and work well with team members from varying internal organizations including scientists, engineers, clinical specialists, and the commercial organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design primers and probes for PCR-based assays for use on the GenMark Dx ePlex platform.
  • Perform bioinformatics analysis of sequence data to increase specificity and sensitivity in the context of multiplexed PCR and detection reactions.
  • Assist in maintaining and optimizing scripted tools as a part of the assay design pipeline.
  • Provide presentations, feedback, and suggestions to lab scientists based on data analysis.
  • Provide bioinformatics support for commercially available molecular diagnostics tests (3rd tier customer support).
Position Requirements - Qualifications and Experience:
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Genetics, or related field.
  • 2+ years in a technical role developing bioinformatics solutions to include in-depth knowledge of the principles of nucleic acid hybridization, primer and probe design, and enzymatic amplification.
  • Proficient in one or more languages: R, Python, Perl, and/or Excel VBA.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the multiple public data repositories and how to obtain data from them.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing biological sequence data, both from public databases and raw chromatograms.
  • Experience with standard assay design software.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and analyze statistical & scientific data, including characterization of assay performance.
  • Proficient using MS Office software.
  • Commitment to adhere to internal processes and maintain accurate and complete documentation of design work.
  • Customer service oriented personality with a record of active collaboration as a part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Extremely detail oriented personality with a track record of catching errors.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill information and present to team members of all levels.
  • Ability and willingness to present data and facts honestly and diplomatically.
  • Ability to handle and resolve conflicts and work under stressful conditions
  • Creative mindset with the ability to be flexible and resourceful.
