Job Description:
This position will collaborate with the research and development of tools and databases for WVU Hospitals Heart and Vascular Institute. The Bioinformatics Researcher will assist with data analysis, result interpretation, as well as providing high quality statistical support for clinical trials and/or research. The Bioinformatics Researcher will play integral role in assisting in developing research design and analytical methods to conduct health research in the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and provide support in improving the health in the state.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: Bachelor s degree in Computer Applications, Bioinformatics, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: PhD or Master s degree in Bioinformatics, preferred. Experience:

-Five years of research experience in Bioinformatics, Computer Biology, or related field, preferred.

-Six years of industrial experience as a Software Analyst, preferred.

-Five years as a research assistant in Bioinformatics, preferred.

-Maintains current knowledge and contributes to scientific advancements by participating in professional organizations, attending lectures and conferences, and reading current industry journals.

-Collaborates to provides design models and statistical support for clinical trials and research to ensure appropriate methods in completing research.

-Assists to develop and audit data to ensure integrity of data and quality controls to enhance the performance of all clinical sites of service.

-Helps to identify potential data inaccuracies and takes appropriate initiative to resolve or find solutions.

-Assists to write SAS code, analyzes data, and validates results.

-Demonstrates understanding of clinical trial data collection processes and shares findings with collaborators.

-Helps design research studies in collaboration with physicians or other professionals supporting the projects.

-Assists to write research proposals or grant applications for submission to external bodies.

-Helps to prepare and contribute to articles for publication or presentation at professional conferences.

-Provides input regarding data collection tools and data correction procedures.

-Analyzes basic data requests and generate statistical results.

-Handles multiple competing projects and deadlines, and coordinates all the statistical needs of each research project.

-Performs intermediate and advanced statistical analysis and programming for health services and health policy research projects.

-Serves as a co-investigator on population health research projects and assists in the submission of proposals to obtain external funding.

-Demonstrates independence, intellectual curiosity, strong attention to detail and commitment to scientific integrity and high quality research.

-Provides guidance to the research design and prepares statistical analysis plans and performs and interprets basic and complex analyses.

-Provides involvement with developing algorithms web servers, webservices, databases and NGS data analysis. Performs complex programming efficiently.

-Programs analysis datasets using analysis software and/or reviews those programmed by others to ensure quality; combines multiple disparate data sources-including electronic health records, insurance claims and clinical registries-to derive study variables. Considers and suggests alternative programming approaches to improve quality and or efficiency.

-Participates in all statistical aspects of a research project with minimal guidance. Collaborates with project leader, principal investigator, other clinical investigators, and external government or industry representatives to affect significant decisions regarding the research project, and to jointly achieve objectives and timelines. Contributes constructively to project discussions.

Skills And Abilities:

-Knowledge of Python, flask, MySQL, JSON, JavaScript, and Linux, preferred.

-Excellent written and oral communication abilities writing skills desirable.

-Prior Clinical research and trail experience desired.

-Strong analytic skills with experience in statistical modeling and analysis.
