Job Description:
NAVICAN is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team and help us in leveraging cutting-edge laboratory and bioinformatics processes to help provide next generation care guidance for late-stage cancer patients. The ideal candidate will work closely with the scientific and clinical production team at NAVICAN to develop and improve our clinical informatics processes, as well as aid with research and development for retrospective and prospective clinical studies.

The successful candidate must be a high energy, analytical, hard-working team player with an entrepreneurial spirit, who is talented, hands-on, and highly ethical. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated successful experience in bioinformatics or computational biology in an oncology, healthcare, or life sciences regulated environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform best-practices genomics data analysis using standard pipelines at scale in order to test hypotheses and identify patterns in genomic data.
  • Assist in the design and deployment of novel analytical methods for improving therapy guidance for patients and oncologists.
  • Develop methods to improve variant calling, classification, and annotation systems.
  • Aid in the design and execution of prospective and retrospective clinical studies using large patient databases.
  • Leverage modern machine learning algorithms for improving processes in the lab and analyzing complex patient datasets.
EDUCATION AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related fields with a focus on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Genomics preferred.
  • 1-2 years relevant experience with PhD, 2-4 years with MS, 3-5 with BS.
  • Experience with oncology or rare disease genomic analysis with standard toolsets.
  • Knowledge of basic and advanced genomic analysis tools (GATK, Sention, Bedtools, Samtools, etc.).
  • Knowledge of machine learning, data analysis, and/or general statistics.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language (python preferred).
  • Experience working and developing in a cloud-based environment.

  • Salt Lake City based is preferred.
  • Will consider San Diego residents, with up to 50% travel to Salt Lake City
