Job Description:
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated computational biologists to lead independent research groups at EMBL-EBI and can offer successful applicants a unique opportunity to pursue their own research direction in computational biology.

These roles have generous provision for the recruitment of students and postdocs to the group, freedom to pursue any research topic within computational biology, world class facilities and no teaching requirements. There are numerous collaboration opportunities with other groups at EMBL, with the co-located Sanger Institute, in the broader Cambridge area in the UK and across Europe.

Qualifications and Experience:

EMBL-EBI is particularly interested in hiring young investigators, subsequent to their first postdoctoral position, or even direct from a PhD programme. In our recruitment, we focus on the potential demonstrated by aspiring group leaders to develop over time. We aim to provide a collegiate, supportive environment for independent scientists to set their own research agenda in computational biology. All topics in computational biology are within scope for these research leader roles, from methods development through to data discovery, and from electron microscopy data analysis through to ecological modelling, including genomics, biological image analysis, transcriptomics, metabolomics and chemoinformatics.

Benefits:

EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation. The remuneration package comprises a competitive salary, a comprehensive pension scheme and health insurance, educational and other family related benefits where applicable, as well as financial support for relocation and installation.

We have an informal culture, international working environment and excellent professional development opportunities but one of the really amazing things about us is the concentration of technical and scientific expertise – something you probably won’t find anywhere else.

If you’ve ever visited the campus you’ll have experienced first-hand our friendly, collegial and supportive atmosphere, set in the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside. Our staff also enjoy excellent sports facilities including a gym, a free shuttle bus, an on-site nursery, cafés and restaurant and a library.

Application Instructions:

Please include a cover letter, CV and a concise description of research interests & future research plans. Please also arrange for 3 letters of recommendation to be emailed to: applications@ebi.ac.uk at the latest by 15 October 2017.
