Job Description:
Are you interested in an exciting field of Bioinformatics? If so, we are looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist who is strong in the computational biology and the development of software and relational databases to integrate all available information on sequences, variations, and expression, and statistical result to the systematic hunt for genes that cause T2D. This position will provide the opportunity to collaborate with other scientists, as well as, a general leadership role in the management of bioinformatics research studies or projects. Responsibilities:

  • Develop new or modified existing research in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology.
  • Identify appropriate protocols and methods to use in conducting research projects or studies.
  • Developed bioinformatics policies or procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate research program including disparate or longitudinal multi-disciplinary program.
  • Develop strategic plans to address high performance computing/IT infrastructure modifications.
  • Analyze Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Methods
  • Collaborate with outside scientific research teams on computational or bioinformatics solutions.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position.
Additional Requirement:
  • One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: directing a group or team conducting research related to bioinformatics technologies; managing, implementing, conceptualizing or designing, bioinformatics applications; analyzing the effectiveness of biomedical informatics programs and activities; developing scientific collaborative partnerships; and representing the organization at bioinformatics conferences, panels or committees.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
