Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Scientist works under minimal supervision on complex projects and may also assist less experienced peers. This position routinely consults with and receives guidance from senior positions, uses software and/or databases to gather, store, manipulate, and analyze clinical and research data, and designs and implements bioinformatics tools and process analysis in accordance with defined clinical protocols used for genetic sequence, phenotype analysis, data mining or statistical modeling. Identifies and resolves technical issues and proposes upgrades to software analysis. Develops data analysis methods and also extends, adapts and improves existing methods.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required:Bachelor's Degree or better in Computer Science or related field.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree or better in Computer Science or related field.
Experience:

Required:

  • 2 years: Scientific programming experience or tool development experience in sequencing analysis or genotyping, Lynux or Shell scripting
  • 2 years: Experience with at least two of the following technologies: Perl, Python, Java, C#, Javascript
Preferred
  • Demonstrated work experience developing novel methods and algorithms
  • Demonstrated work experience showing proficiency with the use of biological databases and on-line resources/tools
Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices. Schedule:

7:30 AM -4:30 PM
