Job Description:
The Monsanto Regulatory Sequencing and Bioinformatics team is seeking a highly qualified candidate to support production bioinformatic activities. The successful candidate will be responsible conducting and evaluating the results of bioinformatic analyses and writing technical documents reporting the results and conclusions of these analyses. In addition, the candidate will be involved in activities that support the production of technical reports such as annual updates of databases, the updating, development and maintenance of software tools that are used for the collection, evaluation and automation of technical report production. To succeed in this position, a candidate will require experience and demonstrated skill in the evaluation and interpretation of bioinformatic analyses. The candidate must be able to link the results of bioinformatic analyses to the biological processes. In addition, the candidate must have practical computer programming skills, that include development, testing and use of software/pipelines they have developed. Excellent collaboration, communication and problem solving skills, to work with scientists, management and IT professionals within a GLP compliant organization are essential.

Required Skills:

-M.S. and 2+ years of post degree work experience or Ph.D. in a biological science.

-3+ years of experience using bioinformatic software tools such as FASTA, BLAST, STELLAR, Bowtie and CLUSTAL in a Unix/Linux command line environment.

-Proficiency in a Unix/Linux command line environment that includes extensive knowledge and at least 4 years of hands on experience using shell, PERL and at least one object oriented, event driven language.

-Demonstrated programming skills that include production of well-structured, easily maintainable and fully documented code.

-Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

-Excellent written language skills are required as this position entails production of very large (>1000 pages) complex technical documents that are provided to regulatory agencies around the world.

-Attention to detail and an ability to multitask to meet business critical timelines on an ongoing basis.

Additional Info:
Candidates who are chosen for an in person interview will be required to give a 45-minute oral presentation describing recent bioinformatic work they have conducted, they will be tested to assess their proficiency in a Unix/Linux command line environment and will be asked to provide three examples of fully documented computer code that they have written.
