Job Description:
The bioinformatics department at Illumina is looking for an intern to develop innovative bioinformatics methods for integrative analysis of genetics and epigenetics data. Recent developments of high-through epigenetics approaches are driving novel discoveries in biology and medicine, from the depiction of human gene regulatory network to in-depth understanding of disease mechanism and classification. The intern would perform research along the direction of integrating internal and public genetic, epigenetic, and transcriptional data, and developing novel computational approach for improved signal extraction from multi-modal data. The research activities would include literature review, data retrieval, exploratory data analysis, model building, programming, scientific writing, and presentation. Successful completion of the intern research could result in meaningful biological discoveries and/or novel algorithms. Qualifications & Requirements:

- Must be PhD level student, with a minimum 3.2 GPA – both cumulative and major (will be verified by transcripts).
- Must have strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Preferred majors in bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, computer science, statistics, data science, or related disciplines.
- Familiarity with unsupervised learning, probabilistic modeling, and linear algebra is required
- Programming skill in R/MATLAB, Python/Perl, or C#/C++ is required.
- Experience with gene expression (microarray, RNA-Seq) and epigenetics (ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq) technologies and data analysis is highly desired.
