Job Description:
Biomedical Informatics and Personalized Medicine has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Bioinformatics Software Developer position.

Nature of Work:

This position will develop software and perform data analysis as a member of a team of bioinformaticians in a medical clinical laboratory focusing on diagnosis and research in the areas of cancer and genetic disorders. Projects include, but are not limited to: next generation sequencing data analysis; development, testing, and maintenance of laboratory management and analytical web sites, databases, and pipelines; and preparation of abstracts, oral and poster presentations, scientific manuscripts, and research grants.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with an outstanding academic record in bioinformatics, computational biology, software engineering, or a directly related field.
  • Two (2) years' professional experience as a software developer.
  • Experience with object-oriented computer programming, relational databases, and web development.
  • Experience working independently and within a cross-functional team, including outstanding written and verbal communication, documentation, and presentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in bioinformatics, computational biology, software engineering, or a directly related field.
  • Experience with Python, Django, JavaScript, and bash scripting/programming.
  • Experience with SQL for data analysis and object relational model web frameworks.
  • Experience with Python/pandas and/or R for data analysis and visualization.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems.
  • Experience with major biomedical genomic and cancer databases.
  • Experience with Linux operating system.
  • Experience using High Performance Computing clusters and workflow managers.
  • Experience configuring and using HTTP servers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced proficiency with at least one modern programming language.
  • Ability to create innovative, robust, thoroughly-tested, and well-documented applications.
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of biology, genetics, statistics, and laboratory procedures through course work or job experience.
