Bioinformatics Software Developer

Job Description:
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Developer to join the multi-disciplinary computational biology team. You will drive the development of new software tools for genomic analysis and combine these with existing software to facilitate both internal projects and external research collaborations.

Potential areas that a programming driven role could cover are

• Development and maintenance of software solutions for core infrastructure and cloud solutions
• Software integration, business analysis and architecture design
• Working with lab staff to fulfil their bioinformatics analysis needs
• Applying and promoting software engineering best-practice.

We are seeking exceptional individuals who enjoy working in a highly collaborative and fast paced R&D environment. They should be confident working both individually and in project teams, and have a strong background in developing software solutions, including building solutions and integrating the solutions of others.

Key Requirements:

• Practical experience in one or more major programming languages (e.g. Python, C++, C#, Go)
• Affinity and passion for new languages and technologies
• Expertise in a Linux/Unix environment

Beneficial Experience:

• Understanding of bioinformatics and familiarity with biological data
• Web tools like Angular.js, JQuery and web application frameworks like Django or Ruby on Rails
• Software engineering productivity tools like version control and issue tracking
• Relational databases and database API technologies such as ORM.
• High-performance computing environment such as SGE or LSF

Education:

• Masters or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics or equivalent.
