Job Description:
The Henry Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Biostatistician IIII to support the Bioinformatics Core of the Collaborative Health Research Initiative Program (CHIRP) at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CHIRP. CHIRP is a collaborative precision medicine research program between the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense with a focus on heart, lung, blood and sleep disorders.

The Biostatistician will perform statistical analysis on large genomics and clinical datasets (DNA whole genome sequencing, DNA exome sequencing, mRNA sequencing, clinical data).

Responsibilities:

1. Performs statistical analysis of genetic association for various human diseases.

2. Performs experimental design analysis and sample size calculations for whole genome and whole transcriptome sequencing studies.

3. Analyzes statistical properties of genetic variant types (mutations, copy number alterations, and structural variants) in large cohorts for analysis and improved detection.

4. Contributes to reports of experimental results for publication in peer-reviewed and technical journals.

5. Provides statistical consultation to local investigators.

6. May supervise junior informatics staff.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Research experience in genetics and genomics, evidenced by publications; demonstrated expertise with tools such as PLINK, regression modeling, and BEAGLE; programming experience in R, SAS, or comparable; experience with study design and power calculations; demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. Experience with next generation sequencing analysis (e.g. GWAS, cancer genome analysis, etc.) preferred.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational Biology, Genetics, Epidemiology, or Public Health required.

Minimum Experience: 4 - 6 years related research experience

Physical Capabilities: Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer.
