Job Description:
As a member of the CVM computational biology team, you will be advancing understanding of disease biology, and contributing to target identification, biomarker development, and patient stratification efforts throughout the disease area and in collaboration with the larger research organization. You will work closely with drug discovery teams and computational biology colleagues to answer key biological questions by performing genome scale computational analyses. You will lead and participate on teams that bring together bench scientists, software and network engineers, statisticians and other bioinformaticians to provide high quality analyses of genome scale experimental data. Your background must demonstrate a proven ability to work collaboratively to provide high quality research results.

Specific activities include:

1. Integrating and mining large-scale ‘omic datasets generated internally and in the public domain.

2. Developing and evaluating algorithms and data analysis methods, including machine learning approaches.

3. Driving interdisciplinary scientific initiatives that span generation of integrative genome scale profiling datasets, data analysis and interpretation, and application to specific drug discovery projects.

4. Communicating scientific results and methods to the NIBR community and the broader scientific community.

Minimum requirements:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, cell and developmental biology, or a related field and at least 3 years post-doctoral level experience in an academic or industrial setting.

  • Ability to lead projects and to work as part of a team
  • Strong scientific curiosity and initiative with an ability and interest in communicating, teaching and learning from biologists and physicians
  • Expertise in genome biology and genomic data analysis
  • A demonstrated understanding of statistics
  • Expertise in R
  • Expertise working in Unix/Linux environments
  • Expertise with Python or other scripting language
  • Laboratory experience in cell or molecular biology strongly preferred
  • Industry experience preferred
