Job Description:
The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor, Dr. Lo-Ciganic. Candidate’s primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, and building high quality prediction systems integrated with large health care datasets. Candidate will also assist faculty or students with statistical analysis on ongoing research or new research. Candidate will have experience with statistical or data mining software (e.g., SAS, Stata, R, Python, MatLab, Access) and analyzing data from a range of projects related to medication utilization and health outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods.
  • Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques.
  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
  • Supporting study design, analysis plan data collection, and grant application.
  • Developing and implementing programs to process and manipulate large datasets.
  • Providing data programming and analytic support on a range of research projects.
  • Preparing study reports with both tabular and graphical data presentations.
  • Preparation of presentations and manuscripts.
  • Conducting and participating in study review and data security and quality monitoring.
  • Supporting educational opportunities to help researchers and students become more effective at study design, data management and study analysis.
  • Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance.
  • Problem solving skills are also required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Proficient in applied statistical methods and machine learning techniques and algorithms (e.g., Naïve Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.).
  • Intermediate or advanced level of using SAS, Stata, R, Python, MatLab, SQL, JAVA, or equivalent statistical or data mining software.
  • Strong teamwork and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Great problem solving capability.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master Degree in biostatistics/statistics, bioinformatics, managed information system or other areas with a solid training in applied statistics, data mining and machine learning.
  • 1 – 5 years’ experience working with large administrative or electronic health data.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms (e.g., Naïve Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.).
  • Experience with common data science and statistical toolkits, such as R, Python, MatLab, SAS etc. Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, etc.
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL.
  • Strong in applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Problem solving capability.
  • Adaptability.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Strong computer background.
  • Strong knowledge of data presentation software.
  • Collaborative experience in biomedical and public health research.
