Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic full-time DATA SCIENTIST to join the Mootha laboratory (http://mootha.med.harvard.edu) based at Massachusetts General Hospital and Broad Institute. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a dynamic team with expertise in biochemistry, computational biology and medicine. The DATA SCIENTIST will work with a research team focused on metabolomics. Recent advances in high-resolution mass spectrometry enable analysis of all metabolites in a biological or clinical sample. These technologies make it possible now to study biochemistry and metabolism in a holistic way. These experiments generate huge amounts of data, creating an new opportunity in big data analytics. The successful candidate will work closely with biochemists in all aspects of the projects, including project design, development of pipelines for data analysis, statistical inference, machine learning, visualization, and integrating results with publicly available databases. Strong background in programming and statistics and ability to work in a team setting are key. This is a special opportunity for publishing high quality manuscripts. Qualifications: - strong programming, computing, and database skills. Experience in C/C++/Java, Matlab/Mathematica/R/SAS and/or SQL - experience in algorithm development and scientific computing - exposure to life sciences is preferable - excellent organizational skills - excellent written and oral communication -BS Required; MS preferred or equivalent level degree in bioinformatics, statistics, computational biology required -Requires 2 years minimum in directly related experience
