Data steward/analyst - help make omics data FAIR for knowledge discovery and translational researchLeiden University Medical CentreHuman GeneticsThe Netherlands-South Holland-Leiden Be part of modernizing life science and translational research!

In your role as data steward/analyst, you will support biomedical and clinical researchers in the LUMC working with omics data (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics) to make their datasets FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reproducible). Activities include the standardization of data formats and the development of data models, and consultancy on the storage and hosting of data. You will showcase the added value of interoperable data for integrative analyses and knowledge discovery using internal and external datasets.

You will be part of LUMC’s Good Research Practice (GRP) group. This group is comprised of advisers concerned with the regulation and quality assurance of clinical and fundamental research. Furthermore, you will be part of the project team Data Stewardship under the umbrella of LUMC’s Strategy Study Research ICT, and will be based within the department of Human Genetics. You will work with multidisciplinary teams of bioinformaticians, biostatisticians, biomedical and clinical researchers and ICT specialists.

FAIR data principles and associated tools are being developed at an international level. The Netherlands plays an important role in this. Therefore, you will join the Dutch Techcentre for Life Sciences (DTL) working group for development of FAIRification tools, which also implies international collaboration. You have a Higher Education Masters Degree in Computer Science with good knowledge of data models and a particular interest in the life sciences. You will have, preferably, worked with semantic web and linked data technologies and workflow management tools (like Taverna or Galaxy), and have experience with programming languages such as R, Python and C, as well as command line scripting languages. You work in a structured way, using version control systems (e.g., Git).

Data stewardship requires special teamwork within the LUMC, and you will be expected to train and support scientific researchers, data managers, regulators and heads of (clinical) departments. You are highly motivated to communicate effectively, write documentation and cooperate with partners outside your area of expertise, and you are keen to develop these competences further.Job Information Position Type: Data Scientist Reference (Job ID number): D.15.GJ.MV.24 Start Date: ASAP Duration: Full Time Status: closedContact InformationLeiden University Medical Centre
