Job Description:
Finch is looking for a database developer to support the collection, organization, and mining of clinical and experimental data. You will help build our data analytics platform by working closely with bench scientists, computational biologists, and study coordinators as part of a multifunctional team in support of a microbial therapeutics development platform.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Design and build databases for clinical sample data and tracking, high-throughput biological data and scientific analyses currently stored in flat files
  • Collate, structure, clean, and support mining/analysis of unstructured clinical metadata from diverse sources (internet, clinicians, etc)
  • Run, test, streamline, optimize, and parallelize scientific pipelines/algorithms
  • Learn to maintain and improve our AWS cloud computing infrastructure, spearheading systems administration
  • Other new challenges to grow your skillset and our platform
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience developing database architecture
  • Demonstrated ability to programmatically organize and tidy data for subsequent mining
  • B.S. in CS, Bioinformatics, software engineering, or related field
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience with linux cluster computing environments
  • Ability to work independently, balancing multiple responsibilities and responding to changing priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Eager to work collaboratively in a team and to both give and receive feedback to support professional development for self and others
  • Passion, humility, and excitement for doing whatever it takes to drive research forward
Additional Desired Skills & Experience (not required):
  • Familiarity with cloud computing, in particular AWS autoscaling EC2 clusters with CFN
  • Linux systems administration experience
  • Facility with big data visualization, especially with R or python matplotlib
  • Strong understanding of machine learning and/or mathematics, particularly statistics
  • Experience doing biological software development or bioinformatics experience
