Job Description:
Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX) is currently seeking a Database Engineer with Oracle and SQL to work with our bioinformatics team in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

As a member of our Bioinformatics Team, this professional will prepare and conduct bioinformatics experimentation, prepare reports and analysis of results as related to product/process development improvement.

This professional will plan and design database structures, logic, and interfaces in a clinical diagnostics environment. The database tools will integrate with our bioinformatics pipelines and the review and reporting systems.

Working with a team, the Database Engineer will:

  • Evaluate, develop, validate, and implement new next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis technology and technology enhancements, including bioinformatics analysis pipelines, testing/validation scripts, and other tools related to genetic diagnostics.
  • Design, develop, validate, and implement new database structures, processes, and interfaces relating to next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, diagnostic testing development and validation, data quality review, and clinical reporting.
  • Provide written documentation and specifications of software products and services.
  • Consult on process and technology improvements within R&D, Operations, and IT departments. Participate in resolution of support requests where computational biology or database tools are used.
  • Regularly report progress and prepare data analyses for internal review.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
  • MS SQL Server, Oracle development, Perl and Python experience is required. Knowledge of R is preferred.
  • Must have a demonstrable proficiency with database development and common bioinformatics applications.Significant experience evaluating, developing, validating and implementing new next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis technology and technology enhancements, including bioinformatics analysis pipelines, testing/validation scripts, and other tools related to genetic diagnostics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
