Job Description:
You are a well rounded scientific computing developer with an agile philosophy who is well versed in gathering user requirements and translating these into robust software solutions. Working with the computational biology team and with scientists and engineers across the organization, you will employ your full stack front end skills, knowledge of database design and architecture, Perl/ Python expertise and facility with PHP/ symphony or Ruby/ Rails, to:

  • Design and develop dynamic web applications connecting scientists and engineers to “omics” databases,
  • Provide access to and visualization of these data through responsive, intuitive and convenient graphical interfaces,
  • Execute statistical computing programs in collaboration with other member of the computational biology group, deseminating the results via web, for example via the R “Shiney” package, and with documentation in jupyter notebooks
  • Maintain and extend existing applications cast in PHP/ symphoney and Ruby/ Rails,
  • Formalize data analysis pipelines and reduce them to code

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent experience and professional certifications
  • Accomplished full stack dynamic front end developer (CSS, JavaScript Frameworks )
  • Strong UI and visualization design sense
  • Agile development style and mindset
  • Statistical computing in R including R’s web framework Shiny
  • Perl and/or Python
  • PHP/symphony and/or Ruby/Rails
  • Experience in building data analysis pipelines and integrating these with database back and front ends
  • Experience in Database Design, implementation and Administration in MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Fluent in Linux; working knowledge of windows
  • Working experience in high throughput biology environment
  • Team player balanced with strong individual initiative
  • Scrupulous documentation & excellent communication
NICE TO HAVE:
  • Industry experience highly desirable
  • Experience in statistical learning highly desirable
  • Experience with Pipeline Pilot or KNIME
  • Experience programming robotic platforms
  • Significant exposure to prokaryotic biology with emphasis on metabolism
  • Experience in high throughput biology environment
  • Experienced user of standard Bioinformatics tools such as MEME, BLAST etc
  • Experienced NGS analyst
  • Experience integrating metabolomics, genomic, proteomic and transcriptomic data sets
  • C/C++
  • Unix system administration skills and experience
