Job Description:
The Research Group Systems Biology and Bioinformatics invites talented and highly gifted candidates to apply for a Doctoral Researcher (m/f)(Systems Biology and Metagenomics)for three years initially. The Systems Biology and Bioinformatics group participates in several high profile international consortia for modelling the association of human microbial communities and disease development. The disease spectrum that we currently focus on includes infectious diseases, obesity, diabetes, cancer and atherosclerosis. We are trying to reveal the microbial compositions of the fecal microbiota that predicts subjects at disease risk and suggest microbiome-based therapeutic interventions to reduce the risk. The group has previously developed in house pipelines for the independent analysis of metagenomic, metatranscriptomic and stool metabolomic data, which are now further revised and upgraded to accommodate combined analysis for a large number of multi-meta-omic samples. We expect that the new Doctoral researcher will develop the protocols, approaches, and fundamental research needed for advancing our understanding in microbial ecology, with direct implications on biodiversity and human health. The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute – (HKI, www.leibniz-hki.de) investigates the pathobiology of human-pathogenic fungi and identifies targets for the development of novel natural product-based antibiotics. We offer: The successful candidate will be hosted at the Systems Biology and Bioinformatics (SBI) group and directly supervised by the Head of the SBI group. - A strong interest in conducting collaborative research on the topic outlined above is paramount. Candidates are expected to be interested in working at the boundaries of several research domains.
- Master´s degree (for PhD candidates) in Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics or a related discipline.
- Knowledge in statistical methods in the context of biological systems.
- Experience with programming (Python, Perl, C++, R).
