Job Description Lockheed Martin (LM) is seeking for a Genomics / Bioinformatics Lead who will be responsible for the development and demonstration of scalable informatics systems for the Personalized Medicine product line of the IS&GS-Civil Health and Life Sciences business area.The Genomics Bioinformatics project develops software systems for the management of large scale Genomics Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data systems and the creation of computing services to perform genotyping and phenotyping of thousands of samples in the most expeditious and cost-efficient manner. This position will provide subject matter expertise in the area of genomic data science, bioinformatics, applications, algorithms, data, and user stories. The position will participate in the development of software products bringing the science perspective to the team. The Lead position will co-directing the software engineering staff with a seasoned software leader. The goal of these projects is to provide customers with scalable solutions to the next generation of problems in genomics. The Genomic Bioinformatics position will participate on selected Internal Research and Development (IRAD) and Customer proposals and Program projects and will thus be responsible for reporting technical, and schedule status to internal reviewers as well as customers. In this role, the position will present project overviews to internal and external groups and must have the ability to present complex topics to customers of various scientific, technical and business backgrounds. The position is an integral part a product development team charged with the development of the next generation of solutions for personalized medicine focused on the emerging problems in the development of personalized therapies. Customers include The Veteran Affairs, National Institutes of Health, Pharmaceutical Industry, Academia, Government Labs, and International Governments. Up to 20% travel (including possible international) will be required of this role. Basic Qualifications -PhD degree plus 3 years of experience or MS degree plus 5 years of experience in Genomics Science and/or Genomics Bioinformatics or relevant domain -Requires subject matter expertise in current issues in genomics and bioinformatics tools -Demonstrated Software Development expertise with a preference for enterprise software development -Position requires ability to travel 20%+ of the time -Extensive knowledge of genetics/genomics & bioinformatics -Experience in analysis of high-throughput of raw and other forms of genomic data (e.g. microarray data (Illumina and Affymetrix platforms) and NGS data (Illumina, 454 & Life technologies) -Extensive experience with the existing SNP array and NGS data analysis software such as AFT, Galaxy, PLINK, BWA, GATK, SNPeff, Tophat and Bowtie and bioinformatics data formats such as VCF, BAM/SAM, PED, FASTQ. -Experience in statistical genetics, genotyping imputation, and Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS) -At least 3 years of professional experience working with software engineering teams that have developed pipeline and/or web-based systems with Java/Java EE -Understanding of Agile and/or Scrum methodologies, understanding of SDLC concepts, project and issue tracking systems such as JIRA or Redmine -Solid background in statistics analysis and tools: Example: R/Bioconductor experience -Demonstrated ability to operate independently and as part of a team -Ability to translate the scientific knowledge and direct a software team based on your knowledge Desired skills -Publication record of bioinformatics algorithms or libraries -Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Storm, Cascading and NoSQL database technologies such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch and HBase. -Cloud computing experience -Experience computing in Unix/Linux environment -Familiarity with current software engineering, distributed computing, cloud based solutions, and scalable systems is a desired but not mandatory skill requirement.
