Our school has been active in education and research in clinical, cognitive, and  public health informatics for more than fifteen years (https://sbmi.uth.edu/faculty-and-staff/directory.htm#faculty1 ). We are now aggressively expanding into translational bioinformatics and big health data informatics. We have a minimum of three faculty positions (rank open) in the current 2014-2015 academic year and potentially a lot more in the 2015-2016  academic year. We are particularly interested in candidates with background in computer science and engineering and with interests and track records in biomedical and healthcare research.

JOB TITLE: Tenure Track - Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

JOB SUMMARY: The School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) has multiple tenure-track positions in the following areas at assistant, associate, or full professor level. We are particularly interested in:

(1) Translational Bioinformatics, with a focus on utilizing bioinformatics theories, methods, and tools to address clinical and health problems as individual and population levels.

(2) Big health data informatics, with a focus on integrating, mining, and using data from multiple sources (e.g., clinical, genomic, population, and environmental data) to address challenging problems in clinical practice, health prevention, and biomedical discoveries.

The successful applicants will join a dynamic faculty at SBMI who are active in research, education, and applying informatics to clinical practice. UTHealth is in the world’s largest medical center – the Texas Medical Center (TMC), located in cosmopolitan Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the United States. SBMI is one of the largest biomedical informatics programs in the nation with 24 regular faculty, 65 adjunct faculty, and nearly 200 graduate students. SBMI offers one PhD degree and two Master's degrees, along with three graduate certificate programs in biomedical and health informatics.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic faculty at SBMI who are active in research, education, and applying informatics to clinical practice. UTHealth is in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC) located in cosmopolitan Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the United States. SBMI currently offers one PhD degree and two Master's degrees, along with three certificate programs in biomedical and health informatics.

QUALIFICATIONS: The individuals should possess a PhD and/or MD in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, public health informatics, healthcare management, computer science, medicine, or related disciplines. For applicants at the associate or full professor level, a strong track record of teaching at the graduate level, extramural funding and published research is required. For applicants at the assistant professor level, a strong record of research publications and potential for obtaining extramural funding are required. Candidates who are likely to develop collaborative research with other SBMI faculty and faculty at UTHealth are preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to conduct funded research, participate in teaching activities at the graduate level, and provide service at the school, university, national, and international levels. Collaborative research with other faculty in the school and across UTHealth and the Texas Medical Center is expected.

SALARY: Competitive and dependent upon qualifications and experience.
