The Head of Software will report to the CEO and manage a multidisciplinary team of Software and Bioinformatics Engineers in our Menlo Park headquarters to develop and operate the company's next-generation pathogen detection system for the food industry. The Head of Software's job is to make everyone in the engineering organization successful and he or she needs to fix the issues that are getting in the way of a successful delivery of the products. Responsibilities:
- Inspire and lead a world-class engineering organization
- Manage and support SaaS operations of existing production services and internal LIMS
- Own and drive the design, build and architecture of new products and services
- Responsible for Quality Assurance processes adopting best practices
- Grow the Engineering team to meet the business needs
- Working closely with the Executive Team to create achievable but aggressive development plans
- Provide hands-on technical leadership for product and business strategy
- MS in Computer Science or similar field
- Several years of software development and management experience
- At least 3 years of engineering management experience in a startup
- Experience with highly collaborative agile development practices
- Ability to do a mix of people management, technical leadership, and hands-on development
- Understanding of NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) bioinformatics is a big plus
- Successful launch of a life science product in the marketplace is highly desired
- System architecture chops, across both hardware and software is very nice to have
