The Forsyth Institute is seeking a doctoral or master-level bioinformatician to help implementing pipelines for genome annotation, NGS data analysis, as well as maintaining the content and expanding the tools and functionality of the Human Oral Microbiome Database (HOMD - http://www.homd.org). HOMD provides the scientific community with comprehensive information on the approximately 700 prokaryote species that are present in the human oral cavity. HOMD links sequence data with phenotypic, phylogenetic, clinical, and bibliographic information. Genome sequences for oral bacteria determined as part of this project, the Human Microbiome Project, and other sequencing projects are being added to the HOMD as they become available.HOMD also provides useful bioinformatics tools for studying human oral microbiome. HOMD is physically hosted at the Bioinformatics Core of The Forsyth Institute. The Forsyth Institute (http://www.forsyth.org) is a leading independent oral and craniofacial biology research organization located in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities/Job Description:
Maintain and trouble-shoot the HOMD web site
Document the HOMD user interfaces.
Curate and maintain the human oral 16S rRNA sequence database and tools.
Add new genomic sequences to the dynamic annotation pipeline.
Improve current dynamic automatic genome annotation pipeline.
Create or implement new and useful web tools for HOMD.
Terms:

Experience in dynamic web design using the LAMP system (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP).
Experience in other programming languages is also desired, including C++, JAVA, Phython, etc.
Course work in both Biological Science and Bioinformatics is required. Course work in Microbiology is strongly recommended. Experience in analyzing microbial genomes and phylogeny is also desired.
Ph.D. or Master Level degree in Bioinformatics related field.
