This candidate will be required to architect, implement, and support high performance computing (HPC) systems hardware and software systems in support of our FDA CFSAN mission in food safety, including bioinformatics and genomics work streams. Candidate is expected to understand and apply best practices for implementing HPC systems for these systems and subsystems: Responsible Include, but are not limited to the following:
- HPC systems implementing x86-based cluster technology, with 1000’s of available cores and terabytes of available RAM
- Storage systems implementing NAS, SAN, and high-performance parallel paradigms using NFS, Lustre, and other HPC file systems
- Interconnect implementing Mellanox Infiniband connectivity and topologies
- Networks implementing 1, 10, and 40Gbps Ethernet (including routers, switches, firewalls, etc.)
- Data transfer systems and technologies, including parallel and streaming environments such as cp, rsync, GridFTP, etc.
- DMZ to permit external users to interface with systems and data repositories
- Systems Security applicable to Federal sites implementing FISMA Low through High data classifications, and associated certification and accreditation including ATO
- Ph.D. in scientific or technical field with 15+ years HPC implementation experience
- MS in scientific or technical field with 18+ years HPC implementation experience
- BS in scientific or technical field with 20+ years HPC implementation experience
- Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of data center implementation and best practices, including understanding and assessing power, packaging, and cooling for systems noted above.
- Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of systems engineering and architecture practices and tools, and success in communicating complex systems changes to customer scientists and management ranging from technically non-literate to literate.
- Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of complex technical project planning and management tools and techniques in order to properly account for tasks, checklists, risk assessment, and progress reporting.
- Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of systems programming tools and techniques and software engineering principles applicable to a production HPC environment and related systems and user applications, including shell scripting (csh, bash, etc.), PHP, PERL, C/C++, FORTRAN, etc. Knowledge of HPC benchmarks and tools is a plus.
- Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of systems and software engineering lifecycle applicable to a production HPC environment, including perceiving user requirements, updating and writing new systems architecture and design, application and systems optimization techniques, and systems migration and transition tools, techniques, and processes.
- Candidate will demonstrate knowledge and experience in interacting with a scientific user base, including tech transfer and related techniques to assist users in implementing their workstreams in a production HPC environment.
