Job Description:
This post will form part of Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Imperial College support for bio-informatics provided by the UK Med-Bio project and Bioinformatics Data Science group. The post will be based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington within the Small Area Health Statistics Unit (SAHSU) which forms part of the MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. SAHSU’s Health Information Systems consist of an air-gapped network of 20 Windows servers and 30 ‘thin client’ workstations used for confidential personal data held by SAHSU and other research groups in the department. The network has its own domain controllers, file and backup servers and a number of servers for statistical analysis. Other hardware forming part of the network are UPS devices with environmental monitoring and dedicated network switches. The successful candidate will be responsible for the secure and effective operation of the Small Area Health Statistics Unit (SAHSU) network, computer systems, related applications, hardware and software. The role will require the post holder to maintain an up to date picture of SAHSU’s control effectiveness and compliance with its security policies and standards including information security, access and authentication, logging and monitoring whilst ensuring vulnerability management are understood and appropriate actions taken. The person appointed will ensure that network performance is adequate to handle statistical analyses of ‘big data’. As the skills required for this position are varied, the appointee will be expected to liaise with departmental and other groups within the college ICT department which specialise in different areas of IT and who can provide additional support as needed. Applicants should hold a degree in a technical (e.g. Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering) field or equivalent work experience. This post is full time, fixed term until 31 March 2019. Informal queries about the role can be directed to the Data and Information Services Manager, Hima Daby, E-mail: h.daby@imperial.ac.uk.
