Job Description:
The qualified student must be enrolled in an accredited Bachelors, Masters or PhD computer science or engineering program, have completed the first year in the program, and is looking to gain practical work experience. Must be skilled in using personal computers, Microsoft Office applications, web development technologies, relational database, Unix/Linux, procedural and/or object oriented programming languages and scripting languages. The candidate will be working in the Genomics Systems Unit, supporting Center for Individualized Medicine genomics and bioinformatics projects. Programming projects may include implementing algorithms, visualization of complex data types, optimizing and performance tuning pipelines for data analysis, creating user interfaces for different clinical sub-specialty areas, and other IT/programming work as directed.

Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of the Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction, guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience, to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the intern.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must be enrolled in a bachelors, masters or graduate degree program from a college or university. Typically, this internship would occur after the student has taken most of the courses required by the degree program. Where applicable - the degree program must require an internship as a graduation requirement (or offer as a credit option). A degree in Bioinformatics, or related field preferred.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $20.00 per hour.

Hours/Pay Period: 80

Schedule Details: Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, maybe required on call.
