Job Description:
Responsibilities: Assist Health Lab staff and collaborators to gain insights based on clinical and research data. The Data Science Intern supports the integration, quality control, exploration, and analysis of data across the medical center. The incumbent will work closely with senior members of the team for support and supervision.

Follows guidelines and directions given by the senior members of the team but has some latitude for independent judgment and decision-making.

Typical Duties

Project Design Collaboration

  • Researches and tests techniques by working out proof of concepts.
  • Cull data from databases such EMR, PROM IS & publicly available systems.
  • Reviews all design decisions with senior team members before implementing.
Project Development
  • Creates solutions based on requirements given by senior team members.
  • Adheres to established standards (provided by lead) in code structure.
  • Document according to standards (provided by lead) for ease of reuse and efficient project workflow.
  • Reviews all solutions with senior team members.
Data Analysis
  • Work with Machine Learning techniques to test efficacy and stability of Azure cloud services
  • Use modern systems and services as established by lead, including R, NoSQL & Hybrid database systems that ease analysis of large datasets
  • Review outcomes with senior team members
Presentations & Training
  • Follow training guidelines per lead
  • Works with senior team members to assist team member training.
  • Works with senior team members to present techniques and findings to team members.
  • Present work in a concise, intuitive manner- including, but not limited to Pecha Kucha style presentations
Requirements:
  • Working toward a bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience with either Matlab, Perl, Python, SAS, R, SQL, or related data analysis language.
  • Experience with statistics, data analysis, and visualization of NGS and/or medical data preferred. This position requires a computer (supplied}.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both scientific and technical personnel.
  • Critical thinking and ability to research the scientific literature.
  • Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds and levels both internal and external to the organization.
