Linux / HPC System Administrator (f/m)

Job Description:
For our Scientific Computing we are looking as soon as possible for 2Linux/HPC System Administrator (f/m)

Move to the vibrant city of Berlin and help us support our scientists cure cancer, diabetes and other diseases. The scientific computing platform is looking for a highly-motivated and detail-oriented individual to join us. As Linux/HPC System Administrator you will be working for the MDC high-performance compute cluster, connected servers, and networking. In this position, you will drive the course of change and improvement while retaining stability of our systems.

Description:

  • Administration, monitoring, tuning and extension of the Linux-based HPC cluster (3000+ cores plus GPUs, 1PB GPFS, 3 PB NFS), and connected systems, such as job queue (Grid Engine), storage (DDN)
  • Realize seamless data flow from sequencing and mass spectometry devices with scripting and monitoring
  • Support of scientific computing for international scientists with a scientific focus different from computing and informatics
  • Contribute to user support and user documentation
  • Contribute to evaluation of new technologies and planning and realization clusters extensions
Requirements:
  • At least a masters degree in a scientific field (bioinformatics preferred)
  • At least three years experience in professional Linux system administration required with excellent demonstrable skill set
  • Excellent knowledge of RedHat/CentOS Linux
  • Proven ability to create versioned, well-structured configuration and deployment systems
  • Active knowledge in Linux-ActiveDirectory-integration, shell scripting, high-level programming and application building, hardware maintenance / firmware updates
  • Working experience in at least three of these technologies: Puppet, NFS Server, GPFS/Lustre, MPI, batch queuing system, docker, Nagios, Kerberos
  • Fluid written and spoken English is a must (at least C1); German is a big plus
  • This is a permanent position but has a temporary term limit of 2 years. Salary is according to the public service remuneration scheme TVöD Bund E 13 according to candidate's experience.
