Job Description:
The Center for Personalized Medicine (CPM) at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) seeks a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral research associate with a background in genomics, bioinformatics, computer science or human genetics to help with investigating the genetic basis of the mitochondrial diseases. This research fellow will be working under the direct guidance of the Director of Bioinformatics at the CPM.

The postdoc fellow will lead the further development of an established genomics resource for the mitochondrial disease research and diagnosis community, MSeqDR (https://mseqdr.org), which has been receiving continuous support from the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) since 2012. He/she will also be tasked with providing bioinformatics support for recently funded three-year NIH U24 grant aiming to curate ClinVar variants that are important for Leigh and Leigh-like syndromes, which are early onset mitochondrial energy metabolism disorders and severe neurological diseases.

The postdoctoral fellow will benefit from being part of the large international MSeqDR consortium and strong collaborations with national and international experts on mitochondrial diseases. The candidate will be exposed to all aspects of genomic medicine and have a chance to grow and refine skill sets that could be extremely beneficial for future career development. CPM develops, implements and offers a variety of most cutting-edge genomics-based genetic tests for constitutional disorders and for pediatric cancers.

Candidates should have a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, genetics or related fields. The successful candidate will have knowledge of human genetics, statistical genetics and molecular biology, as well as strong skills in programming (e.g. python, C/C++, Bash, Perl) and data analysis (e.g. R). Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Web programming skills and experience are strongly preferred. Familiarity with cloud computing and proficiency in big-data technologies (e.g. NoSQL databases, AWS) is also preferred.
