Job Description:

Provide bioinformatics support to molecular biologists. Interact and coordinate with laboratory scientists and other IS/IT professionals to propose data analysis solutions for large-scale gene sequencing, gene expression, and other gene-based research projects (50%)
Develop customized bioinformatics tools in Python and/or Perl/BioPerl and/or R to meet special data analysis requirements (20%).
Interact with researchers to identify user requirements, discuss experimental design and determine an analysis strategy (10%).
Automate and optimize data analysis processes currently used at ICBR. Work with other team members to identify data analysis steps that can be automated and optimized to improve the performance or accuracy. (10%)
Maintain knowledge currency through reading, self-studying, on-line and face-to-face learning activities. (10%)

ADVERTISED SALARY: $47,500-51,000

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A Ph.D degree in computer science, bioinformatics, Molecular Biology or related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D degree in computer science, bioinformatics, Molecular Biology or related field; excellent communication skills; ability to effectively work individually and as part of a team; strong background in genomics data analysis and scripting. Proficiency with some combination of the following programming languages is required: Perl, Python, C, and R. Experience managing large-scale data sets also desired. Demonstrated interest in bioinformatics and common bioinformatics tools is advantageous.
