Job Description:
Rutgers the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology to assist with the Program of Human Microbiome in Nutrition and Health. Under the direction of Principal Investigator, Dr. Liping Zhao, the Postdoctoral Associate will use computational and mathematical modeling to elucidate the role of gut microbiome in human health and diseases. We strongly encourage recent PhD graduates to apply.

General Summary:

1. Develops molecular and genomic tools for understanding and predictive manipulation of the complex microbial communities in human and animal gut.

2. Use bioinformatics and systems biology to understand the interactions between diet and gut microbiota in the onset and progression of chronic diseases.

3.Formulate interventions that integrate traditional medicines and medicinal foods into habitual diet to modulate the relationship between gut microbiota and humans to achieve optimal health.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Requires a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics or computer science with biology background, or in microbiology with computational background.
  • Requires programming skills and experience with major bioinformatics tools and databases.
  • Must be able to independently design and conduct experiments and data analysis.
  • Experience with metagenomics pipelines and high performance computing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Highly motivated with strong work ethic, communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong publication record in the field of microbiology.
  • A background in microbial ecology (especially gut microbiome) with experience in high throughput sequencing and statistics is preferred. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary research environment is a plus.
