Job Description:
The Center’s research, outreach, and educational activities focus on developing an interdisciplinary understanding of the process by which scientific discoveries are translated to create public value. A particular focus of the Center’s research is the application of data analytics to understand the role of technology forecasting, business models, finance, and policy on the development of new drugs. Fellows will have an opportunity to learn business skills through research on business practices.

This is a one-year appointment as post-doctoral fellow with the opportunity to extend for a second year based on satisfactory performance. The Center anticipates the availability of several positions becoming available in 2017-2018. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Essential Functions:

The Post-Doctoral Fellow carries out a research program under the guidance of a faculty member. The research and responsibilities include:

• Designing and executing analytical research involving modeling, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning, or visualization.

• Contributing to the maintenance and construction of the Center’s Data Resources.

• Authoring manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and representing the Center’s research at scientific and industry meetings.

• Supervising and mentoring undergraduate student researchers and graduate researchers.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience Requirements) :

• Candidates should have a doctorate degree, or equivalent terminal degree, preferably in the fields of Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or Biomedical Engineering. Individuals with terminal degrees in biological science with strong expertise in data analytics are also encouraged to apply.

• Applicants should have professional interest or working knowledge of life science, biomedical, or pharmaceutical science. Applicants should be proficient in programming/scripting languages (SQL, R, Python, or Perl) and have a working knowledge of data processing engines (MapReduce/Spark), cloud computing (AWS), and visualization platforms (Tableau), as well as science techniques and toolkits.

• Individuals must have strong communication and writing skills, the ability to work constructively in a highly interdisciplinary environment with professional colleagues and undergraduate students, and a commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards.
