Job Description:
The Systems Modelling and Translational Biology department, in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacological Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is seeking a joint post doctoral fellow for Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) scientists/engineers passionate about using advanced mathematical modeling and computational sciences to develop mechanistic models of disease and their applications in decision making during discovery and development of new drugs.

The post-doctoral fellow will be involved in developing and validating a QSP model for immunology and oncology or related disease areas to serve as a platform for guiding projects during drug discovery and development by assisting target selection, providing inputs into clinical trial design, and identifying prognostic or predictive biomarkers, potentially resulting in reduced attrition and shortened development time for our R&D assets.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients by applying mechanism based mathematical modelling coupled with computational science and biological knowledge to drug discovery and development. The joint appointment will offer the successful candidate an opportunity to learn both the academic and industrial perspectives of drug discovery and development.

Basic qualifications:

Ph.D. degree and/or a M.D./Ph.D. in chemical, mechanical or biomedical engineering, biochemistry, physics, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, scientific computing or related field

• Experience building and using Quantitative Systems Pharmacology/Toxicology models.

• Core competency in numerical analysis focusing on differential equations and at least some experience in one of: finite element, computational fluid dynamics, numerical optimization, agent based modeling, stochastic differential equations, advanced image analysis.

• Experience at building solving and using mathematical models to integrate available data and applying these to answer practical questions and have a positive impact on projects.

• Scientific computing and programming .

• Familiarity with the challenges of drug discovery and forward thinking with respect to the general application of mathematical models in discovery and development.

• Demonstrate scientific curiosity, learning agility, critical thinking skills, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

• Must e a team player. Demonstrate collaborative behaviours both within the computational community and with the collaborating groups or customers.

• Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific data.

• Strong communication skills. Excellent written and oral skills and the ability to interact effectively with scientists in other disciplines with a positive, collegial, collaborative attitude.

• Must be comfortable conversing with opinion leaders regarding highly technical information.

• Must be a self-starter able to handle multiple projects concurrently and be productive and successful in an intense work environment.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in Matlab, Simbiology and Comsol preferred.

• Experience in immunology and/or oncology.

• Knowledge and understanding of drug delivery, absorption, distribution and metabolism, pharmacology and toxicology, PK/PD modeling, physiological based modeling, systems biology, data analysis desired.
