Job Description:
Anthony Nolan is a pioneering blood cancer charity and bone marrow donor register. Every day, we match incredible individuals willing to donate their bone marrow or blood stem cells to patients in desperate need of a transplant. Last year we helped find a match for over 1,200 people with blood cancer and other blood disorders. We are now looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist to work as part of the HLA Informatics Group.
Reporting to the Director of Bioinformatics, you will be involved in the development and optimisation of novel methods for identifying genetic polymorphism. You will also assist with the supervision and training of members of staff, visitors and PhD students working in the laboratory.
The successful candidate will have a first class or 2:1 Degree in Biological Science (BSc) plus a PhD, preferentially with a background in molecular biology or Immunogenetics. Experience in molecular biology techniques is essential and experience of Next-Generation Sequencing methods, HLA and/or other Immunogenetic gene systems would be advantageous.
You will be expected to plan, design and implement experimental procedures, keep accurate records and present data at both internal and external meetings. Good organisational skills’ including the ability to cope with large work loads is essential as well as the ability to show meticulous attention to detail.
