CBSS is seeking a computationally oriented proteomics scientist with an interest in solving real-world problems in bioforensics and biosecurity. The successful candidate will contribute to research focused broadly on the identification and characterization of chemical signatures that are of concern to national security sponsors. - Independently applying computational proteomics techniques to well defined assignments in a research and development laboratory
- Working in technical teams to complete well defined project tasks on time and within scope and budget
- Recommending technical approaches and making technical contributions that may ultimately affect the direction of the research
- Thoroughly documenting experiments and publishing data analysis methods
- Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated experience in computational and/or statistical aspects of proteomics and computational proteomics/proteomics data analysis
- Demonstrated experience in peptide and protein identification by database search; proficiency with one or more common proteomics database search engines (e.g., Mascot, MS-GF+, Sequest)
- Strong knowledge of one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, R)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proteomics sample preparation laboratory experience is preferred
- Operation of liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry instrumentation is preferred
- Application of proteomics to microbial systems or protein toxins is preferred
- Experience in quantitative/comparative proteomics is preferred
- Experience in alternative peptide identification modes (spectral libraries, de novo peptide search) is preferred
- Experience managing multiple projects and tasks is preferred
- Preferred Education: PhD in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics or a related field. Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher preferred.
