Job Description:
Drs. Charis Eng (human cancer genomics) and Stephen Grobmyer (Breast Surgical Oncology) are searching for a highly-motivated postdoctoral researcher for the Genomic Medicine Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute. The successful candidate should be interested in inter-disciplinary biomedical science and will apply metagenomic and computational biology skills to interrogating the microbiome to elucidate breast carcinogenesis. The Eng Laboratory is a leader in genomic medicine research, providing evidence that will lead to the practice of precision medicine. This opportunity offers an exceptional learning environment to apply principles of basic biology to patient-oriented research. It is anticipated that, through daily interaction with faculty, staff, physician-scientists and collaborators throughout NE Ohio and beyond, the incumbent will gain appreciation for the patient-oriented research process. Technical Skill Requirements: -Ideal candidates will have a proficiency in broad cancer fields -Experience in skills relevant to metagenomics and computational modeling relevant to this field -Familiarity with next generation sequencing preferred but not required -Ability to independently analyze literature and project data -Excellent writing and communication skills in English Responsibilities: The post-doctoral researcher will work directly on a project requiring interaction with other members of the Eng lab, members of the Genomic Medicine Institute’s clinical team, Dr. Grobmyer and his team in the Cleveland Clinic Breast Center. The successful candidate will conduct experiments and analyze data under Dr. Eng’s mentorship. As part of these studies, the postdoctoral researcher will be directly responsible for designing experiments and analyzing the data, under her mentorship. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to develop a proficiency in the topic through a continuous survey and review of the existing literature. Other Attributes: -Must be capable of working independently. -Ability to work proactively required. -Must have strong organizational skills and an ability to follow regulatory best lab practices with regard to data handling. -Must have good interpersonal skills -Must have a high degree of self-motivation fueled by a fundamental interest in contributing to science in particular. Qualifications A completed Ph.D. in the area of bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology or genomics. Strong publication record demonstrating the ability to model, analyze and understand complex data.
