The following opportunity exists in our South San Francisco, CA headquarters: Sr. Director, Bioinformatics & Computational Biology Description Genentech has an outstanding opportunity available for a motivated and highly accomplished scientist to lead our Bioinformatics and Computational Biology department. This impactful role is responsible for creating, managing and coordinating our computational strategy with therapeutic area and core function stakeholders in support of our entire research effort and drug development pipeline. The position leads a diverse group of over 100 internal and external staff, and promotes computational efforts by managing projects across multiple departments in Research and Clinical Development. We are a leader in the development and application of computational methods to research problems in drug discovery and development, and we have extensive resources for computational support and data analysis. Who You Are Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements: • Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or related field • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in computational biology and bioinformatics demonstrating success and contribution to the field • Extensive experience with large-scale scientific software projects and open source software • Well-developed research plans with a robust scientific track record to include software and/or algorithm development aligned with scientific objectives and consistent with current best practices • Strong record of developing and publishing computational analyses with a focus on human disease • Successful track record of leading teams or groups in computational efforts • Proven ability to hire, coach and develop world class talent • Excellent leadership capabilities with demonstrated skill in building, guiding and motivating effective teams and fostering productive research collaborations • Outstanding communication and partnering skills A Job with Benefits Beyond the Benefits No matter who you are or what role you play, you’ll help change the face of medicine and make a real difference in the lives of people facing the most challenging medical conditions.
