Job Description:
A postdoctoral position in statistics and bioinformatics is available in the Beyster Center for Genomics of Psychiatric Disease and the Institute for Genomic Medicine at UC San Diego. Led by Jonathan Sebat (http://sebatlab.ucsd.edu), the Beyster Center is a leader in the fields of human genome research and psychiatric genetics. The postdoctoral fellow will carry out research on a new NIH-funded genetic study to investigate how combinations of rare and common genetic variation influence psychiatric traits. Discoveries from our laboratory have shown that rare Structural Variants (SVs) in the genome confer risk for neuropsychiatric disorders including autism, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Additional Info:
The goals of our current study are:

1) to determine how rare pathogenic SVs impact specific dimensions of clinical psychopathology in humans.
2) to determine how the clinical outcome of rare genetic disorders is influenced by the combined effect of rare common genetic variation genome wide.
This study will take advantage of a large patient sample (N = 2,000) in which subjects that have been diagnosed with specific deletion and duplication syndromes have undergone whole genome sequencing and deep psychometric evaluations.
