Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Translational Medicine and Chemical Biology

The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB) conducts a broad spectrum of biomedical research and education within medical biochemistry and biophysics. Presently our department consists of 11 research divisions with a total of approximately 300 employees. We are looking for two post doctoral researchers to join Prof. Jiri Bartek´s newly formed research group at the Department of MBB, Research Division of Translational Medicine and Chemical Biology.

Description of research group
The group headed by Prof. Jiri Bartek has started this year and will grow over the next few years to include (apart from the group head and the administrative assistant) senior researchers, post-doctoral scientists, PhD students and technicians. The group is expected to be highly international and will mainly focus on cancer research, both basic mechanisms and translational aspects including identification of cancer cell vulnerabilities exploitable for innovative treatments and biomarkers to guide future therapies. The Bartek group will employ a variety of approaches including cell and molecular biology, genetic and chemical biology screens, biochemistry, immunochemistry, imaging etc. to elucidate various aspects of cancer biology, cell cycle control, genome integrity maintenance and responses of diverse tumor types to radiotherapy, chemotherapy and emerging targeted treatments. The mission of the group will be greatly aided by the other research groups in the Division (particularly those of Prof. Thomas Helleday and Prof. Oscar Fernandez Capetillo) as well as dynamic junior groups and technological platforms at the ScienceForLife Laboratory, in which the new group of Prof. Bartek is located.

Position Description
We are looking for two post doctoral reseachers to Prof. Jiri Bartek´s newly formed research group at MBB/ SciLife laboratory. The applicants shall conduct research within the field of molecular cancer research with a focus on cellular mechanisms involved in cellular growth control and genome integrity maintenance.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

Highly motivated candidates with a recent Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular biology, Biochemistry or other relevant fields are encouraged to apply. Complete fluency in both written and spoken English is a request. Successful candidates should have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously. The candidate´s personal skills will be highly valued.
