Job Description:
Will assist with bioinformatics projects in the TIGSS Bioinformatics Service Core and will assist in developing and delivering hybrid bioinformatics courses for undergraduate and graduates students. Requires competency in biological programming language such as Perl or R. Previous bioinformatics teaching is a benefit. Major/Essential Duties of Job: Developing and delivering hybrid bioinformatics courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Duties may include, but are not limited to: *Specific duties related to research activities including: 1) care and use of BSL2 bacterial pathogens. 2) creating bacterial mutant strains. 3) expression and purification of bacterial proteins. 4) bioinformatics related to bacterial genomics. 5) growth and use of human cell lines. *Independent research activities including: 1) design and execution of required experiments. 2) writing manuscripts. 3) presenting at scientific meetings both within and outside the university. 4) contributing to grant writing and other funding related efforts. Occasional Duties: Other duties as required Required Education and Experience: Doctoral degree in a life science discipline, with specialization in microbiology, molecular biology/biotechnology, immunology, or infectious diseases preferred. Experience with fastidious microorganisms a plus, including molecular genetic experience with such species. Ability to work as part of a team essential. Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Requires competency in biological programming language such as Perl or R. Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Previous bioinformatics teaching is a benefit.
