Job Description:
A postdoctoral research position is immediately available, with a primary focus on the analysis of large genomic datasets. The position will involve designing and implementing large-scale association studies, developing novel analytic methods, and communicating research results through publications and presentations. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with large-scale genetic data (including whole genome sequencing in tens of thousands of individuals), the opportunity to participate in large international collaborations, and the opportunity to develop their own research projects.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should have a PhD in a genomics-related field such as genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related areas. Alternatively, an MD with appropriate prior research experience may apply. There should be evidence of a strong quantitative research background with experience in programming and statistics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the handling and analysis of large-scale genetic data
  • Experience with statistical genetics and/or statistical modeling approaches
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Job Type/Schedule:

This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Position hours are generally normal business hours, Monday through Friday, but may vary due to the timing of experiments and other research activity deadlines.

This computational position is in the Stitziel Laboratory located in the Cardiovascular Division of the Department of Medicine. Our lab is affiliated with both the Center for Cardiovascular Research and the McDonnell Genome Institute, one of the leading large-scale genome centers in the United States. The position is located within the McDonnell Genome Institute at the 4444 Forest Park Avenue Building on the Washington University School of Medicine campus.

Our lab focuses on gene mapping for complex and Mendelian forms of cardiovascular disease. We are also interested in developing methods for the analysis of complex genetic data and pursuing functional validation of causal genes and mechanisms. We study these problems in hopes of applying genetic findings and techniques to improve clinical care and human health.

Salary Range: The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience.
