Job Description:
We welcome applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic scientists to fill multiple positions immediately available focusing on human and statistical genetics in the McDonnell Genome Institute (MGI) at Washington University School of Medicine. As one of NHGRI’s Centers for Common Disease Genomics, we aim to understand the inherited susceptibility underlying cardiometabolic traits and diseases, autoimmune disorders, and related risk factors. We are also actively developing methods for the analysis and interpretation of complex genetic data. We study these problems in hopes of applying genetic findings and techniques to improve human health.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with one of several principal investigators studying common disease genetics at MGI. Candidates will work to discover novel genes and pathways underlying a variety of diseases and traits using deep whole genome sequence data in >50,000 individuals and will have access to a wide array of data (including genome-wide arrays and whole exome sequences) in tens/hundreds of thousands of participants for follow-up studies. Candidates will have the opportunity to participate in large international consortia and develop their own independent research projects.

Required Qualifications: The appointee has earned a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent doctorate) in genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related areas and a track record of scientific productivity. There should be evidence of a strong quantitative research background with experience in programming and statistics.
