Job Description:
Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center (UHCC), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,222/Mon.

DUTIES: Responsible for designing and conducting computational and integrative genomic studies to review basic biological functions in cancers as well as their biomarker potentials, in association with patient survival and tumor progression in populations. Develops public bioinformatics tools and computational methods to facilitate research. Collaborates with various investigators on high-throughput data analysis. Prepares manuscripts, grants and presents research at meetings. Performs some lab management duties and helps to supervise students.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING: PhD from an accredited college or university in Bioinformatics, Electrical Engineering, Genetics, Biophysics or (Bio) Statistics.

EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of strong independent research experience with high profile, first-author publications. Includes experience with building pipelines for high-throughput data processing using next generation sequencing, microarray etc., and experience with collaborations with experimental biologists.

ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Working knowledge in Linux/Unix environment. Programming knowledge in at least two (2) of the following: perl, R, matlab, C, C++ or Java. Familiar with machine learning, data mining methods, and various statistical modeling. Highly motivated to conduct research with minimum supervision, good oral communication and written skills, and good interpersonal skills and presentation skills.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to carry/lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
