Job Description:
The successful candidate will join the Cardio-Renal team at the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research and has opportunities to work with large scale omics datasets, including genomic, metabolomics, and proteomic data. The main job responsibilities are to provide computing, analysis and interpretation support to PIs and lab members under direction for quality control and association analysis of high-throughput omics data.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Writes custom code to perform data cleaning, quality control, creating variables and datasets, data analysis and management using R in a Linux computing environment. Responsibilities also include identifying potential problems with study data and collaborating with research team to resolve issues.
  • Install programs in a Linux environment and reformat datasets independently according to program documentation.
  • Perform analysis of large scale datasets using regression techniques
  • Write documentation for analyzed datasets and related files.
  • Collect information by searching online bioinformatic databases, such as UCSC Genome Browser, dbSNP, UNIPROT, ENSEMBL
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscript, including create tables and figures in publication-quality format and summarizing the results of statistical analyses and present results orally to study investigators.
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor or master’s degree in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or related field. Background knowledge of genetics and biology desirable.
  • At least 1 year of experience in programming (part-time experience can be included).
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong programming skills, organization, and critical thinking
  • Must be proficient in R and Linux
  • Knowledge of other programming languages or statistical software, such as python, Java, Stata, SAS, or SQL, is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of genetics and statistics
  • Ability to rapidly learn new programming languages on the job
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
