Job Description:
This new full time post is available immediately on a 3 year fixed term basis.

An exciting opportunity is available for a biomedical statistician wishing to work in a dynamic research environment. The Institute hosts teams of statisticians, bioinformatics and clinical staff working in the field of gastroenterology and diabetes.

You will be a statistician with experience and interest in diagnostic studies, stratified medicine and real world research projects.

Your primary role will be the analysis of a large prospective pharmacogenetic and clinical observational trial in inflammatory bowel disease. The PANTS study has followed 1700 patients with inflammatory bowel disease for 3 years after their first treatment with an anti-TNF agent. These drugs are the major healthcare cost in IBD but are only effective in one third of patients. We are looking for an individual with the skills to analyse this complex clinical data set and integrate with colleagues to build in genetic, transcriptomic and serum biomarker data to fully understand which patients respond to these drugs.

In addition you will also contribute to all aspects of the research process including preparation of funding applications, the design and conduct of studies, statistical analyses and report writing and the presentation of results. You will be actively encouraged to liaise with clinical and lead investigators and will also provide support to colleagues in the University of Exeter Medical School.

Applicants will possess a PhD, (or in the process of writing up) in a related field of study (e.g. biology, maths, statistics, physics, computer science).
