Job Description:
Purpose and Main Duties:Postdoctoral–level post in bioinformatics and computing, developing and curation of software and websites/webservers and databases, creating new structural biology analysis methods, and user liaison via electronic (and in-person) methods. The post holder will specifically also contribute to the design and operation of the PCDDB (Protein Circular Dichroism Data Base), as well as to collaborating on version control.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, structural biology or other related subject.
  • Familiarity with a range of computing languages; ability to write in JAVA and at least one upper level programming language is required.
  • Expertise in use and creation of databases, software and websites.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics techniques.
  • Knowledge of structural biology, especially protein and nucleic acid structures.
  • Ability to present information to expert audiences and colleagues, both in writing and in talks.
  • This post may also involve travel in the UK and abroad, as well substantial networking and collaboration with our partnering team at Queen Mary University of London.
Please note: candidates need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas.

In addition it is desirable that candidates have:

  • Knowledge of biological spectroscopic methods (preferably Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy).
  • Good communication skills (both oral and in writing), including presentations at meetings and local project meetings.
  • Experience in development and curation of bioinformatics tools.

Salary: Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £37,169 rising to £42,483 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) fixed term for 4.5 years. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 12 months.
