Principal Scientist II - Bioinformatics

Pleasanton, CA

We are looking for Principal Bioinformatics Scientist II to join our team. You must enjoy hands-on work and working in a team with bioinformatics and wet lab scientists.

Responsibilities:
•You will be leading and contributing to projects that involve PCR primer/probe design, DNA sequence analysis and NGS, comparative genomics.
•Most of your work will be supporting internal R&D for both IVD and research use products.
•You should also be able to collaborate with external customers.

Qualifications:
•This position requires for an experienced Bioinformatics scientist or Software engineer who gained biotechnology experience or directly related experience.
•A Ph.D. and 6+ or M.S. with 10+ years of experience in a related field is required.
•You should have experience using bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis, PCR and comparative sequence analysis. You need to understand algorithms used in these tools and how these are applicable to your projects.
•You should have excellent knowledge of perl and UNIX, R and relation databases.
•Knowledge of python, PHP, C++/C# or Java is a plus, but is not required.
•Scientific background in NGS and molecular biology is required.
•Knowledge about qPCR, understanding of infectious diseases and oncology is a plus. This science knowledge should be sufficient to work with scientists in the Roche R&D and Clinical operation organizations.
•You should be able to lead projects from feasibility to completion, anticipate and overcome challenges, negotiate requirements and time line to deliver results.
•The tools and pipelines you develop should be usable by other scientists in R&D.
•You will be presenting at internal meetings and conferences.
•You must have strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with biologists, bioinformatics scientists, software developers and IT.
