Job Description:
The candidate should have a strong background in both bioinformatics and cancer biology to lead a team of computational biologists engaged in state-of-the-art translational genomics research. The candidate will lead the team and work directly with clinicians and investigators with expertise in tumor biology, computational biology, translational therapeutics, and molecular pathology among others. The focus of this research work is the integrative analysis of high throughput genomic data, and work with computational and laboratory-based investigators. The goal is to identify the mutational programs and pathways implicated in disease and treatment response phenotypes and to identify novel therapeutic targets. Projects focus on population-scale clinical genomics; Immunogenomics; high-throughput characterization of cell-free DNA; intratumoral and inter-patient heterogeneity; integration of somatic and germline genomics; machine-learning and data science-focused methodologies; and many others. The ideal candidate will have a focus on and dedication to translational science, be an innovative thinker, exceptional communicator, enjoy working with an interdisciplinary team, and bring intellectual and analytical rigor to their work.

You Are:

  • A highly organized and self-directed scientist with hands-on experience performing genome-scale analysis
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • A person who enjoys working in a team, is self-motivated, can manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and can solve problems independently.
  • Experienced in computational cancer genomic methodologies.
  • Someone with strong leadership qualities and committed to managing an integrated team of experimental and computational scientists.
  • An excellent communicator.
  • A methodical and detail-oriented scientist.
You Will:
  • Direct and supervise the activities of computational laboratory staff in analysis and projects.
  • Partner with Center leadership to set priorities for integrative genomic analyses and collaborative genomic research
  • Prioritize overall computational initiatives to meet center goals, and delegate work to team members.
  • Provide technical guidance and respond to questions raised by staff to ensure timely completion of analyses.
  • Oversee computational analysis in collaboration with bioinformatics group members to evaluate the performance of new technologies and implement appropriate data analysis pipelines and workflows.
  • Serve as the primary contact for principal investigators and research staff regarding computational initiatives and collaborative science.

You Have

Minimum Qualifications:

  • D. or equivalent in biological science with 5-7 years of experience, computational biology, bioinformatics or related field with strong quantitative background. Proficiency with scientific computing software (Matlab, R) and scripting languages is required.
  • Solid programming skills and extensive research experience in the biological sciences. A thorough understanding and experience in statistics is strongly preferred.
  • Research experience in statistical genetics/genomics strongly preferred and a familiarity with next-generation sequence data and analysis tools.
  • Must be able to both work independently and collaboratively; making necessary connections with experts in various biological and clinical groups.
  • Highly motivated with excellent oral and written English communication skills; experience in delivering oral scientific presentations and writing scientific articles strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent time management skills, especially involving simultaneous management of multiple projects
