Job Description:
We are looking for a driven and talented Director of Engineering to join our growing Life Cycle Management (LCM) organization. The LCM group is the engineering group responsible for the transfer, stabilization and scaling of Illumina’s industry leading high volume consumables.

This individual will lead a team of Product Engineers to drive improvements in Illumina’s high-volume consumable products through product knowledge, systematic problem solving, data analytics, and data reporting. This role will work across the organization (including Process Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, R&D, Quality, Finance, etc.) to drive improvements in Illumina’s consumable products.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and manage a high performance team of Product and Operations Intelligence Engineers to drive improvements in Illumina’s high volume consumable products.
    • Customer Facing / investigation – works closely with the field and product development to resolve customer issues and to act pro-actively through monitoring and analytics development
    • Product / Manufacturing – Drive pro-active factory informatics and democratization of data including deep understanding of process and product function and data. Key deliverables include expanding SPC, scorecards, 8D investigation, and data collection infrastructure.
    • Supplier Engineering – Establish a new Supplier Engineering team to drive a centralized supplier change management process oversight, insourcing, specifications management, and 8D investigations.
  • Works with the team to develop and maintain a vision for advanced analytics and A-Z product health that provides deep insights into product performance and drives product improvements.
  • Responsible for continuously improving Illumina customer experience via technical leadership, proactive field monitoring/response programs, and interfacing with internal field support/platform teams.
  • Works and influences across all of Illumina’s departments and sites to drive deep collaboration and build great products.
  • Works with development teams to transfer, launch, and scale hardened products into full production.
  • Drives team ownership of consumable products throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Maintain and build a great team through employee development and recruitment.
  • Mentor and coach the team in areas such as Six Sigma, 8D, DFSS, risk management, FDA regulations, advanced data visualization, predictive analytics, etc.
Requirements:
  • Working knowledge in data science such as big data analytics, predictive analytics, databases, etc., and a programming language such as R, Python, or Java required.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, coach, and mentor direct reports required.
  • Strong interdepartmental communication and influencing skills are required.
  • High level problem solving and reasoning skills required.
  • Experience with statistics, Statistical Process Control and DOE techniques are required.
  • Work experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical or semiconductor industries is desirable
  • Experience in high-volume production support in a high-tech consumables industry is a plus.
  • Experience working in an ISO13485 or FDA certified environment is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals while working across departments is required.
Education:

B.S./M.S./PhD in Computational Science (such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, etc.), Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience and at least 4 years as a technical manager.
