Job Description:
The incumbent will work with senior research/executive personnel in serving Leadership Excellence Networks, managing the Center website, library and organizational databases, planning/coordinating conferences and meetings, conducting internet and literature searches, providing customer service and handling other internal operations. The incumbent will offer essential interpretation of Computer Science Concepts, facilitating the mutual understanding among investigators from diverse scientific disciplines. This role requires self-direction and motivation for handling a high volume and variety of activities, as well as advocate the BD2K Center Consortium mission and act in accordance with NIH policies and guidelines/procedures. The position will receive supervision from the Director and senior research personnel of the BD2K Center at UCLA. Job Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Physics or other equivalent disciplines. Experience with track record of excellent organizational skills in professional office environment preferred. Knowledge of web application desired. Proficient in C#, Java, JavaScript, and Web service programming. Strong mathematical and analytical skills are preferred. In addition, ability for graphical designs and graphical asset creation preferred. Candidates will work closely with biologists, chemists, and clinicians in a leading laboratory, which develops biomedical software for research in cardiology and bioinformatics. Must have a strong team orientation and be able to work effectively in a matrixed organization. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be willing and able to identify a problem or opportunity and take action in a timely way; can also address future problems or opportunities without managerial guidance. Able to conduct in-depth investigation from unusual sources; can ask a series of probing questions to get at the root of a problem; does not stop with the first answer and seeks to comprehend information. Must be able to understand, monitor quantitative and qualitative performance measures. Must be very organized and detail-oriented; must be able to prepare and implement detailed project plans. High energy, flexible, diplomatic, able to multi-task and handle fast paced environment. Ability to meet deadlines and manage diverse projects simultaneously.

The Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) Center of Excellence at UCLA is a unique federal funded program that seeks to advance the science and utility of Big Data. The BD2K Center at UCLA and other BD2K Centers will form a national-wide Consortium to create innovative new approaches, methods, software, tools, and related resources in the context of biomedical and behavioral research. The BD2K Center at UCLA collaborates with multiple domestic and international institutions, including EMBL-EBI (Cambridge, UK), the Scripps Research Institute (San Diego, CA), UMMC (Jackson, MS), Scripps Health (San Diego, CA), and Sage Bionetworks (Seattle, WA). In addition to scientific development on BD2K infrastructure/technologies, our Center will participate in a Consortium-wide training component to both the scientific community as well as the general public.
